Balageru

Balageru is an expressive weather application that translates local Ethiopian geography into rich, atmospheric conditions using custom illustrations, bold gradients, and heavily contextual layouts.

The core objective was to move far beyond generic stock weather icons, delivering a concept experience that feels deeply authentic, visually delightful, and highly motivating for local users.

Weather forecasts rely heavily on stock iconography. The major design hurdle was conceptualizing an interface that authentically represents complex Ethiopian geography without falling back on universally generic visual metaphors.

Balageru emerged as an expressive, bespoke application. The final designs utilize striking gradients and familiar local environments to visually communicate atmospheric conditions, resulting in an interface that resonates incredibly well with local users.
